Long weekend

Thanks to the national holiday on Friday, we had a long weekend in Ä°stanbul. The weather was spectacular. On Friday, it was Mahir & Vera treating a small group of friends to an extra delicious barbeque with Vera’s tasty appetizers on the side. The red onion she baked in a clay pot was by far the tastiest red onions I have eaten in my life (bottom right).

Sweet & Sour Red Onions (Vera’s Recipe): Skin 3 medium size red onions leaving the head so that the layers stay intact. Cut the onions into 8 equal parts, mix with vinegar, mustard, honey and olive oil (2 tablespoons each), transfer to a clay pot and pop it in the oven for 40 minutes at 400 F/220 C.

On Saturday, we drove to a close-by small town called Hereke, famous for its sweet cherries, followed by a humongous lunch at a friend’s summer house. I was so hungry that I forgot to photograph the heaping 16 orders of meatballs and halibut bean salad. We were only 6 people and they were gone instantly… I guess that’s what open air does to you.

It is amazing that everywhere I go, I can find a dog to photograph. Clockwise from top left: Orlando (Mahir & Vera’s), Ralph (The Mansion), Charlie, Nono.

    Merhaba Çilek. Blogumu hem ingilizce hem de Türkçe hazırlamak için maalesef zamanım yok. Çok uzun saatler çalışıyorum. Türkçeye gelene kadar Cafe Fernando’ya bile gerektiÄŸi kadar zaman ayıramadığımı düşünüyorum.. Bakalım ilerde iÅŸlerim hafiflerse neden olmasın?

    çok güzel olacağını tahmin ediyorum fakat başarıyı şansa bırakmamak için:
    ne kadar kırmızı soğana ne kadar sirke, yağ ve hardal?
    bir de soğanları bütün mü bırakıyorsunuz yoksa doğruyor musunuz?
