I am always on the lookout for interesting finds to blog about and I had my eyes extra wide open on the day of my Grand Bazaar visit. I knew something special would come along. On our way down from Grand Bazaar to the kitchen supplies store, we walked by a street stand. This man was showcasing a simple yet very handy tool, which I’d like to call “The Ultimate Dolma Machine”.

Grand Bazaar

Picture this: Shopping (and eating) all day long with two shopaholic friends in a very hot and humid day at Grand Bazaar, where there are 4000 shops with most of them ranging between 2-3 sq. meters and crammed with people inside, pushing and poking while shopping like crazy. Oh and you hate shopping. Well, hate is a big word actually. Let’s say that unless it is Williams Sonoma or a pet shop, it takes me 5-10 minutes to look around and see if there is anything I like and then comes the feeling of being trapped inside a box with overly attentive sales staff who I never seem to get along with. Durusu & Beyti

After such a miserable winter, summer has finally arrived. In order to take advantage of this nice weather, friends and I spent an amazing Saturday in the open air and finished the day off with a scrumptious dinner at Beyti, which is my favorite restaurant in Istanbul.

We drove 45 minutes northwest to Durusu - a small town with a beautiful landscape. I couldn’t stop taking pictures. You can visit my Flickr page for the whole set of Durusu photos.

Beyti is one of the oldest restaurants in İstanbul that serves traditional Turkish food, specializing in meat dishes. It is not your ordinary kebab restaurant. The quality of their meat is top notch and the service is impeccable. The decoration is clearly inspired by the Ottoman era. Very authentic… It is a 5 minute drive from the Atatürk International Airport.

If you ever plan a visit to İstanbul, Beyti should be at the top of your list.
