Apricot Cherry Galette

With summer fruit at its best, there has never been a better time to bake all kinds of stone fruit encased in a buttery flaky dough. Although you can prepare a galette with any fruit you’d like, I highly recommend one of my favorite combinations: Apricot and cherry. Aside from the great color combination, they let out just the right amount of water, which means they need less cornstarch (or flour) to thicken. So, their natural, intense flavors shine through even more.

Even though they are naturally supersweet at this time of the year, a liberal sprinkle of sugar on top of both the dough and the fruit introduces a lovely crunch.

Valentine’s Day Recipes

If you’re still looking for Valentine’s Day recipes, here are some last minute ideas from my archives.

For me, a Valentine’s Day recipe must include chocolate. I am sure you agree with that statement. Strawberries and/or raspberries would make it even better (after all, you need something red). The most delicious combinations for these ingredients (from my previous posts) are the strawberry tuxedo, mini raspberry tarts decorated with bittersweet chocolate and pistachios, and my favorite, strawberry tart with vanilla pastry cream and milk chocolate shavings on top.

The Brioche Tart That Made Julia Child Cry

As I am writing this post, first snow of the season is hitting the streets of İstanbul. It was the only thing missing at our New Year’s Eve dinner party.

I baked two desserts for the occasion: Chocolate and Chestnut Buche de Noel and The Brioche Tart that made Julia Child Cry. Can you believe that name? I didn’t watch that specific episode, but apparently in one of the Baking with Julia episodes, she cried after having a bite of this tart. None of us cried at the dinner table, but it sure was delicious.
