5 Things You Didn’t Know About Me
March 22nd, 2007 | Category: Memoir/Meme/Misc.
Shaun tagged me for the famous meme. So, here we go:
- I was born 10 pounds and with Pertussis (whooping cough). My mom had it as well, so I was never breastfed. I also rejected anything that resembled a nipple, such as a pacifier or a feeding bottle. From the moment I was born, I started eating with a spoon. My mom recalls me screaming at the top of my lungs each time that spoon was out of my mouth. The only thing that made me shut up was another spoonful of food. 30 years has passed and nothing has changed.
- I started school at the age of 5. Thanks to my older brother, I learned how to read and write at the age of four. I rather not tell the first three words he taught me.
- I am known for my extremely unhealthy and dangerous dieting methods. Once, I lost 40 pounds by eating 3 apples a day for a month. Now I know better.
- I was once a radio DJ at the college radio station. I had many stalkers.
- Over the years, I have worked under many unreasonable and demanding managers. One of them ordered (!) me to create artificial winds in the office to test the resistance of an outdoor banner under several different conditions. I just laughed. Directly at his face. I am seriously considering compiling many of these unreasonable assignments in a book.

Hey Cenk - Thank you so much for participating! Your answers are very interesting. Why did you attract stalkers? What sort of radio program did you host?! :-p Never crash dieted myself, but yoga has prevented me needing to do that…as does sheer force of will when I want to fit into my fave jeans. I love your blog. Take care.
Just laughed? That would be my reaction too.. and maybe something more..
And please don´t worry about those dieting methods. Your recipes are so delicious,
Let´s make diet when we all get old!
:)OK?
Hey Shaun - I really don’t know how exactly one can attract stalkers… Maybe it was because my program was between 22:00 pm - 02:00 a.m. Something tells that would be the prime time for stalkers..
B5 - Thanks for the comment
Actually we ended up hiring security guards for each banner who stood next to them on the street 24/7. So you see, your sense of humor changes dramatically after such an experience.
cenk, all of this is very interesting but just one question: have you ever considered working with food? i mean like opening a restaurant or something along those lines? i mean, you seem quite passionate about it.
Hi Leo,
I had a short experience working for a cafe inside Harvey Nichols in İstanbul. They sold my cookies, tarts, scones, etc.. I wish I could say it was a great experience, but unfortunately it turned out to be a little monotonous after a while. Don’t get me wrong.. The idea of feeding people excites me a lot but I think I am more passionate about writing & photographing about it.
